Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - IEEE

The world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE's core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

IEEE Standard 802.15.7

The IEEE standard of LiFi. IEEE 802.15.7 provides dimming adaptable mechanisms for flicker-free high-data-rate visible light communication.

IEEE Standard 802.11.b

The IEEE standard of WiFi.

IEEE Standard 802.15.13

The IEEE standard defines the protocol and compatible network equipment for optical wireless communications and its operation as an optical wireless personal area network (OWPAN) supporting data rates of multiple Gbit/s for wireless speciality applications. The standard defines a medium access control (MAC) layer operating in beacon-enabled or non-beacon-enabled mode and three physical layers (PHYs) enabling low complexity, low power, and high throughput.

Intensity Modulation - IM

A form of modulation in which the intensity of an optical source is modulated by the RF or mm-wave signal.

Industry 4.0

A new phase in the Industrial Revolution that focuses heavily on interconnectivity, automation, machine learning, and real-time data.

Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)

A type of cloud computing service that offers essential compute, storage, and networking resources on demand, on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Internet of Things

The collective network of connected devices and the technology that facilitates communication between devices and the cloud, as well as between the devices themselves.

International Solid-State Lighting Alliance

A not-for-profit international organization consists of regional alliances, associations/societies, leading companies and renowned universities in global Solid State Lighting (SSL) field.

Indoor Positioning Systems

An indoor positioning system allows users to accurately pinpoint the location of people or assets inside a building using smartphones, mobile devices, tracking tags or other devices.

Infrared - IR

Infrared light is electromagnetic radiation (EMR) with wavelengths longer than those of visible light.

Image Sensor

An image sensor or imager is a sensor that detects and conveys information used to make an image. It does so by converting the variable attenuation of light waves into signals, small bursts of current that convey the information.

Internet Speed

The volume of information that can be sent over a connection in a measured amount of time calculated in megabits per second (Mbps).

Internet Infrastructure

A collective term referring to all hardware and software systems that constitute essential components in internet operation.

Interoperability

The ability of different systems, devices, applications or products to connect and communicate with other devices, software or systems.

Intelligent Transport Systems

The application of sensing, analysis, control and communications technologies to ground transportation in order to improve safety, mobility and efficiency.

International Communications Union

The International Telecommunication Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for many matters related to information and communication technologies.

ITU-T G.9991 standard

The 1st LiFi standard specifying the system architecture, physical (PHY) layer and data link layer (DLL) for high-speed indoor optical wireless communication transceiver using visible light.
