Heterogeneous Network

A network connecting computers and other devices with different operating systems and/or protocols. Local area networks (LANs) that connect Microsoft Windows and Linux-based personal computers with Apple Macintosh computers are heterogeneous.

Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institut - HHI

The Fraunhofer HHI is a world leader in research into mobile and optical communication networks and systems as well as the coding of video signals and data processing. Together with international partners from research and industry, the Fraunhofer HHI works in the entire spectrum of digital infrastructure - from basic research to the development of prototypes and solutions. The institute contributes significantly to the standards for information and communication technologies and creates new applications as a partner to the industry. One focus is on optical wireless communication. It enables high-speed data connections for areas with special security and electromagnetic compatibility requirements.

Horizontal Handover

A handoff between two network access points that use the same network technology.

Hybrid Light Fidelity (LiFi) and Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) Network - HLWNet

A hybrid network, combining the high-speed data transmission of LiFi and the ubiquitous coverage of WiFi.

Hub

A device that connects two or more packet-switched networks or subnetworks. It serves two primary functions: managing traffic between these networks by forwarding data packets to their intended IP addresses and allowing multiple devices to use the same Internet connection.
