M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation - M-QAM

A modulation scheme that conveys data by modulating the data transmission onto the amplitude via two carrier signals.

Mechanical-Based Energy Harvesting

This is the process of harvesting energy from vibrations, pressure, and mechanical stress–strain from the surface of sensors, rotational movement, and force. The mechanical to an electrical generator can be electromagnetic, piezoelectric, and electrostatic.

Medium Access Control - MAC

A sublayer of the data link layer (DLL) in the seven-layer OSI network reference model. It is responsible for the transmission of data packets to and from the network-interface card, and to and from another remotely shared channel.

Manufacturing Execution System - MES

A system that connects and monitors machines and work centres on the factory floor. The main goal of an MES is to ensure the successful implementation of manufacturing operations and improve production efficiency.

Multiple Output (MIMO)

A wireless technology that uses multiple transmitters and receivers to transfer more data at the same time.

MultiUser Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MU-MIMO)

A wireless communication technology that uses multiple antennas to improve communication by creating multiple connections to the same device at the same time.

Mobile Internet Extranet LiFi Access - MIELA

A portable LiFi system made by PoE-Tic in collaboration with Signify.

Multipath Transmission Control Protocol - MPTCP

An ongoing effort of the Internet Engineering Task Force's Multipath TCP working group, that aims at allowing a Transmission Control Protocol connection to use multiple paths to maximize throughput and increase redundancy.

A blend of physical and digital worlds, unlocking natural and intuitive 3D human, computer, and environmental interactions. This new reality is based on advancements in computer vision, graphical processing, display technologies, input systems, and cloud computing.

Mobile Data

Also known as cellular data, mobile data is the internet connectivity delivered to your mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.) wirelessly.

Modem

A device that connects your home, usually through a coax cable connection, to your Internet service provider (ISP). The modem takes signals from your ISP and translates them into signals your local devices can use, and vice versa.
