Around mid-november 2024, Anthony (Tony) Lawrence, CEO of VOR Technology and Light Rider, was invited to an online session hosted by Quantum Security and Defense Working Group. A service-disabled U.S. The topic was about “Prompting Quantum. Information in AI”.

Light Rider is pioneering a novel approach to quantum random number generation using specialised light technology and quantum entropy sources. This innovative system offers promising applications in quantum key distribution (QKD) and secure communications.

At the heart of the system is a light that generates random numbers through rapid blinking - faster than the human eye can detect. While appearing as a steady stream to observers, the light alternates between off (0) and on (1) states, with a third binary digit created through specific modulation patterns. The system operates with remarkable independence, requiring only a power source, without any need for computer connection or internet connectivity. This isolated operation ensures maximum security and minimal attack vectors.

The system features two distinct types of lights: communications lights and key generation lights. The communications lights operate at approximately 50 megabits per second, while the key generation lights function at approximately 10 megabits per second. Although the key generation lights operate at lower speeds, this rate is more than sufficient for their primary purpose of generating encryption keys. The development team continues to improve the communications light speeds through ongoing research and optimization.

The technology incorporates government-certified chips, including sophisticated components from ID Quantique. These chips use quantum shot noise as their primary entropy source, offering unparalleled randomness quality. The company produces multiple chip variations, including space-rated versions for specialised applications. Users can configure key generation rates between 250 and 600 keys per second, with variable speed settings to accommodate different application requirements.

Security stands as a paramount feature of the system. Unlike traditional systems that might use the same key for weeks or months, this technology exchanges keys every few seconds, significantly reducing vulnerability windows. The system generates high entropy levels continuously, making it an ideal choice for secure communications. The technology proves particularly versatile, working seamlessly with iPhone LiDAR receivers for key reception and supporting various secure communication channels, including encrypted email systems.

The accompanying software suite provides comprehensive control and management capabilities. Users can remotely transmit messages through connected lights and integrate with various quantum computers, including Rigetti systems. The software platform includes robust entropy testing and validation tools, ensuring the highest quality of random number generation.

The platform's sophisticated entropy testing capabilities incorporate multiple validation methods. Beyond the government-standard Shannon entropy testing, the system employs both Renyi and Von Neumann entropy tests. This comprehensive approach enables detailed comparative analysis with other quantum systems and provides reliable benchmarking against both classical and quantum random number generators.

Researchers and developers benefit from the system's real-time entropy monitoring capabilities and seamless integration with existing quantum computers. The platform maintains compatibility with NIST Beacon and other standard entropy sources, while providing automated quality validation. This comprehensive approach to testing and validation makes it an invaluable tool for quantum computing research and development.

The technology continues to evolve through several ambitious initiatives. The development team is currently working on QuantumGPT for more precise testing and validation. Speed improvements targeting 4-5 gigabits per second are under development, along with enhanced integration capabilities with quantum computing platforms. The planned expansion of web-based testing and validation tools will further increase the system's utility and accessibility.

This also represents a significant advancement in quantum random number generation, offering practical applications in cryptography, secure communications, and quantum computing research. Its ability to generate high-quality entropy through optical means, combined with comprehensive testing and validation capabilities, positions it as a valuable tool for both current and future quantum security implementations. As quantum computing continues to evolve, Light Rider's technology provides a robust foundation for secure, quantum-resistant communication systems.
